ROCKFORD – Investigators with the Rockford Police Department are investigating a shooting that left two  women wounded early Friday in the 4000 block of Auburn Street.

Shortly after 1 a.m., Rockford officers responded to a shots-fired report at Auburn Manor and located a 23-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg inside an apartment.  Police say she was shot in the hallway where several people were gathered.

As officers were at the scene, a 26-year-old woman who had been shot in both legs transported herself to a local hospital. She was struck by gunfire outside the apartment building. 

Both victims are expected to recover.
