Rockford man charged with sexually assaulting minor

ROCKFORD – A Rockford man faces several charges in connection with a sexual assault of a minor that police say occurred last December on the city’s south side.
Troy Perkins, 33, was arrested Wednesday and charged with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and four counts of criminal sexual assault.
According to police, the charges against Perkins are the result of an investigation that began Dec. 1, 2018, when patrol officers met with a victim at a local hospital after receiving a report that the victim was sexually assaulted by a family member at a residence in the 2700 block of South Main Street.
Police say Perkins was identified as a suspect during a follow-up investigation. He was arrested without incident at his home.
Perkins is lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. Bond has been set at $250,000. He’s due in court Oct. 23.
Officers learned the victim, who was under the age of 18, was sexually assaulted at a residence in the 2700 block of S. Main St.
Police say the victim is a family member of Perkins.
Perkins was taken into custody and faces four counts of criminal sexual assault and six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Perkins is being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
