News anchor Whitney Martin returning to Rockford

Staff Report

ROCKFORD – Veteran TV journalist Whitney Martin is returning to Rockford.

Martin, who moved to Milwaukee in 2017 and anchored “CBS 58 Morning News,” will serve as assistant news director and anchor of “Eyewitness News in the Morning,” which airs weekdays from 5 to 7 a.m. on WTVO 17, and 7 to 9 a.m. on FOX 39.

Before moving to Milwaukee, Martin worked at WIFR Channel 23 for 10 years.

“I’m beyond thrilled to return to the anchor desk in my hometown,” Martin said. “As a new mom, I understand the fast pace of mornings and know how valuable your time is. I’m honored to become a part of your morning routine and hope you’ll join me as we prepare for the day together.”

Martin’s first day on the air will be Monday, Nov. 4.

“Our newsroom is deeply rooted in this community, with many longtime familiar faces,” WQRF-TV FOX 39 Vice President and General Manager Kelly Lattimer said. “Combining Whitney’s journalistic experience in the morning with that of our evening team of Eric Wilson, Mimi Murphy, Candice King, and Scott Leber makes Eyewitness News the most recognizable news team in the Stateline, and fits perfectly with our philosophy that nobody can cover the Stateline better than those who call it home.”
