City announces furnace assistance program

ROCKFORD – The City of Rockford Human Services department is offering an emergency Furnace Assistance program for qualifying homeowners to assist with non-working furnaces. 

Qualified homeowners may receive either repair or replacement of their heating system after an assessment to determine why the furnace is not working.

In order to apply, homeowners must live in Boone or Winnebago Counties, be a homeowner and be income qualified, for example a limit of $1,561 per month for a single person or $2,114 per month for a two-person household.

Applications for seniors and those receiving Supplemental Security Disability began Oct. 1. Those with children under 6 may apply beginning Nov 1., and all other income eligible households may apply beginning Dec. 1.
