City announces Head Start diaper drive

Staff Report

ROCKFORD – Mayor Tom McNamara and his wife Sarah Reed-McNamara announced the start of a diaper drive to benefit the families of our Head Start program.

The drive will run February 14-29.

Last fall, the city opened a new Parent and Child Education Center as part of the Head Start program. Realizing that diapers are a huge expense for families in that program, the city, through grant funds, provides diapers during the time children are in the center.

The center uses 2,000 per month. The drive will help stock the center and some diapers will be distributed to these families to take home.

“As parents of two toddlers, we know the importance of early childhood education and the Head Start program,” Sarah said. “We don’t want families to struggle with the basic necessities, so it was important to us to create a diaper drive for our community.”

Any size diapers or pull-ups can be dropped off at the following locations:

City Hall
425 E. State St.

YWCA
4990 E. State St.
