Arrests made in HobbyTown USA burglary

ROCKFORD – Two people are now in custody following a burglary that took place at a Rockford hobby store last week.
Michael Day, 29, of Rockford, is charged with burglary and is being held on $50,000 bond. Twenty-nine-year-old Cassandra Werntz, 29, of Freeport, is also charged with burglary. Her bond is $10,000.
Both subjects were arrested in Freeport.
Charges against Day and Werntz stem from an incident that happened last Friday at HobbyTown USA, 3782 N. Alpine Road.
At approximately 6:35 p.m., Rockford officers responded to the store reference to a burglary in progress. Officers met with a witness who was able to take photos of one of the suspects before he fled the scene. Day was identified after photos of were posted on social media.
“Photos of the suspect were later posted on social media and the suspect was identified as Michael Day,” Rockford Police Public Information Officer Michelle Marcomb said in a release. “Officers also obtained additional
information that Cassandra Werntz was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident.”
Mugshots of the suspects were unavailable at press time.
