Eighth person in Winnebago County with COVID-19 dies

ROCKFORD – Another person in Winnebago has died from complications of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus, health officials announced Tuesday.

The death marks the eight fatality in Winnebago County since the pandemic began last month. Details about the latest death have not been announced.

There are now 119 positive cases of COVID-19 in the county. A total of 1,703 people have been tested. The number of negative tests is currently 895 while 689 are pending.

A total of 23,247 people have now tested positive for COVID-19 statewide, a number that shows Illinois may be starting to bend the curve. As of March 22, the number of new cases was doubling every two days. Today, the doubling rate was 8.2 days.

Illinois’ stay-at-home order remains in effect through April 30.
