Man found dead during shooting investigation on Rockford’s west side

ROCKFORD — A 43-year-old man was found dead early Thursday after Rockford officers responded to a reported shooting inside a residence in the 3300 block of Preston Street.

Officers responded to the scene at around 1:15 a.m. and located the victim who was pronounced dead. The man has suffered gunshot wounds, Rockford Police Public Information Officer Michelle Marcomb said.

Police have not reported whether the death is being investigated as homicide. There have been 14 homicides in Rockford this year. There was an all-time high of 36 killings in 2020.
