Winnebago County Animal Services is at capacity; offering reduced-fee cat and kitten adoptions

From Winnebago County Animal Services

(Rockford, IL) – Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) has reached cat and kitten capacity and is asking the public to help by adopting. Starting Thursday, September 8th through Saturday, September 10th, WCAS is offering reduced-fee cat and kitten adoptions. Adult cats are just $5 to adopt and kittens are only $25 to adopt.

“We currently have over 90 cats in our building which means that our cat rooms are at critical capacity. Over 50 cats have come into our care in just the past week and our team is struggling to find open cages for the pets coming in that need our help,” says Adoption & Volunteer Program Coordinator, Amber Pinnon. “Every adoption makes room for us to help another pet in need.”

All adoptions include a free wellness exam, spay or neuter, microchip, vaccinations including a one-year rabies shot, flea and tick preventative, and more. Winnebago County residents also receive a one-year rabies registration tag. In order to adopt, you must have an approved adoption application by WCAS and present a State-issued photo ID.

Adopters are encouraged to have their application pre-approved and pick up their card prior to the event.
