Flooding continues in Rockford, warnings extended

ROCKFORD – The Rockford area is still experiencing flooding, as rain continues to fall nearly four days after several inches fell Monday night, causing washouts throughout the city.

While a flash flood watch is in effect for Winnebago, Stephenson, Boone, Ogle and Lee counties until 10 a.m., Friday, flood warnings have been extended until June 28 for areas near the Rock River: Dixon,  Byron, Oregon, Rockford and the Roscoe-Rockton-South Beloit area. Experts say the river will be running high and fast during that time but is not expected to exceed flood stage. However, No Wake Zone rules will be in effect until further notice.




Flood Warnings have also been extended until June 28 for the Kishwaukee River near Belvidere and Winnebago County, and the Pecatonica River near Shirland. High water near Byron may last through Friday, floods near the Kishwaukee River could last until Monday, and it could be next Thursday before water levels near the Pecatonica River are safe.

Officials say minor flooding is likely over the next few days as rain continues to fall. Showers are expected to linger through Friday, with downpours possible. Storms could bring between 1-3 inches of rain. R.
