Rockford man arrested in shooting of baby, mom

ROCKFORD — A Rockford man was jailed Friday night after a mother and her infant son were shot on the city’s southeast side.

Police say the incident unfolded at around 7 p.m., in the 2200 block of South Fifth Street. There, officers located two victims, a 10-month-old and his 22-year-old mother, who had both been struck by gunfire. Both victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department were able to locate a suspect they identified as Tyrone Anderson Jr.




Anderson, 19, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of weapons and no FOID. He’s being held at the Winnebago County Jail without bond.

Anderson is due in court April 16. Police say the investigation is still ongoing. They are asking anyone with information to contact the Rockford Police Department at 779-500-6551 or Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867. R.
