Rockford man arrested in shooting of baby, mom

ROCKFORD — A Rockford man was jailed Friday night after a mother and her infant son were shot on the city’s southeast side.

Police say the incident unfolded at around 7 p.m., in the 2200 block of South Fifth Street. There, officers located two victims, a 10-month-old and his 22-year-old mother, who had both been struck by gunfire. Both victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department were able to locate a suspect they identified as Tyrone Anderson Jr.




Anderson, 19, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of weapons and no FOID. He’s being held at the Winnebago County Jail without bond.
