River District Association announces new executive director

ROCKFORD — The River District Association on Friday announced Missy Minnaert as its new executive director.

“This is a huge honor,” Minnaert said. “I’ve always called Rockford home and love being part of this great community.”

A Rockford native, Minnaert is a longtime community volunteer, active as a tutor with Rockford Public Schools; advocate for Big Brothers Big Sisters; and fundraiser for Northern Illinois Hospice Association. She’s a founding board member of Santa for Solitary Seniors, event coordinator for RPS 205 Girl’s Night Out.

“We are blessed to have her on our team,” said River District Board President Sean Muserallo.“Missy came to this organization at the right time. We needed someone who has a strong connection to the community and an unrelenting passion for progress downtown. In her, we have both.”

Minnaert takes over for Leah Tuneberg, who stepped down in February to spend more time with her family.

“Leah did a tremendous job getting the group where it is today,” said Minnaert. “I look forward to keeping the River District Association headed down a successful path.”

Minnaert’s part-time position started in April. Her first priority is to engage all current River District Association members and prospective supporters. She can be reached by email at info@riverdistrict.com. R.
