Body found in Keith Creek

UPDATE: The body found in Keith Creek Monday has been identified as 41-year-old Jose “Buddy” Vazquez, of Rockford. He was last seen Monday, June 18, near Charles and 11th streets. A cause of death has not been announced. No foul play is suspected as of this report.

ROCKFORD — Rockford Police investigators are conducting a death investigation after a body was pulled from Keith Creek Monday afternoon.

Police say the body was recovered about 4:45 p.m., near the  1200 block of Seventh Avenue. The victim’s sex, race or approximate age could not be determined because of the body’s condition.

Detectives are also following up on a missing person who was last seen June 18 when about 5 inches of rain fell in a little more than two hours and caused major flash flooding in parts of the city.

Police say Jose “Buddy” Gudalupe Vazquez was last seen between 7 and 8 p.m., last Monday in the area of Charles and 11th streets.

As of this report, there is no connection between the body and Vazquez and no foul play is suspected. An autopsy is pending.
