Police release video of suspect in shots-fired incident involving deputy

ROCKFORD – The Rockford Police Department have released a video in hopes of identify a gunman involved in an attempted armed robbery of an off-duty Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputy.

The incident happened Tuesday in the 1600 block of N. Bell School Road.

Police say the female deputy and another person were sitting in their vehicle when the armed suspect approached and demanded their money. The gunman then fired several shots at the couple; the off-duty deputy returned fire.




No one was injured in the exchange. A business and the victims’ vehicle was hit by several bullets.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s. He’s between 5-6 and 6 feet tall and weights around 150 pounds. He was wearing a black zip-up hoodie and dark-colored jeans.
