ROCKFORD — The national Women’s March has faced accusations of anti-Semitism, and organizers in Chicago recently canceled their event, citing logistical challenges.

Organizer Alicia Neubauer says none of those issues apply to the Rockford march, though. Canceling has never been on the table for their group.

Neubauer says they have tried since the inception of the Rockford march to include a diversity of voices.

She says, “Women’s March Rockford has always been more inclusive, more accepting, more supporting I think. We’ve never been anti-anything.”

Neubauer also says they are not concerned about logistical issues.

The 2018 Rockford Women’s March had 1,500 attendees, and organizers hope that number will increase for the coming march. Even with such a large event, organizers are confident they and the city can handle the logistics.

Neubauer says, “Even if we get 3,000 people I think we’ll still be able to handle it because we have a great partnership with the city of Rockford, the police department, public works. There’s plenty of parking all over downtown. We can handle our size. We can handle this.”

The march will take place at noon on January 19. Marchers will gather at Rockford City Market on Water Street.
