ROCKFORD — A Rockford man has been jailed after police responded to a shots-fired incident on the city’s west side.
At approximately 12:10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, Rockford Police patrol officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert for several shots fired in the 400 block of Albert Avenue. Officers located shell casings, but no evidence that anything was struck by gunfire.
Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and were able to obtain a search warrant for 421 Albert Avenue. On Wednesday, detectives executed the search warrant and located a loaded handgun, ammunition and more than 100 grams of cannabis. As a result of that discovery police arrested 19-year-old Darius Townsend.
Townsend has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and possession with the intent to deliver cannabis. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. R.
