Suspect in Rockford homicide arrested in Missouri

ROCKFORD — The suspect wanted in a Rockford homicide was arrested Saturday in Missouri, local authorities reported Sunday, Feb. 17.

Abdon Ochoa-Villaneda, 37, was wanted in connection with a shooting that left one woman dead and another wounded Saturday morning. Police say detectives with the Rockford Police Department identified Ochoa-Villaneda as a suspect following the shooting and tracked him to Clinton County, Missouri. He was taken into custody shortly before 6 p.m. after a high-speed chase.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges of first-degree Murder and attempted first-degree murder. Ochoa-Villaneda’s bond is set at $5 million. He’s lodged in the Clinton County Jail, awaiting extradition to Rockford. The Missouri Highway Patrol assisted in the arrest.

The names of the victims have not been released. Both were located by Rockford officers in 3200 block of Ninth Street at approximately 11 a.m. Saturday.

The injured woman was transported to a local hospital. She was listed in critical condition.

Details of the shooting are limited. However, police say the suspect and the victims knew each other. R.
