Police investigate attempted bank robbery on northwest side

ROCKFORD — The Rockford Police Department is investigating an attempted bank robbery on the city’s northwest side.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Monday, officers responded to Northwest Bank at 3106 N. Rockton Ave., where police say two masked men attempted to enter the facility through the front doors.

The suspects, one armed with a handgun, made it through the first set of doors into the entryway, but the interior set of doors into the bank was locked. The men then fled the scene in a dark gray Toyota SUV, which was reported stolen.

No one was injured.
