ROSCOE — A local man is wanted by police for allegedly abducting a woman in Winnebago  County Wednesday afternoon.

Police say an arrest warrant has been issued for 43-year-old Matthew Harkey, of Rockford. He’s charged with home invasion, aggravated criminal sexual assault, unlawful restraint and residential burglary. Initial bond has been set at $1 million.

Charges against Harkey stem from an incident police say occurred at around 1:30 p.m., in the 5900 block of McDonald Road. Police located a woman at that location who was suffering from head injuries.

Police allege that Harkey had abducted the woman from her home on LaMar Avenue and that she was able to escape and notify authorities.

Harkey is possibly armed and should be approached with extreme caution, the Roscoe Police Department said in a release. He could be driving a silver Nissan Rogue with Illinois plate number FP65916 or a Red Mitsubushi Lancer with Illinois license number BA36134.

According to court records, Harkey is a registered sex offender and lives at 3982 Whitfield Drive, Rockford.

A Facebook page published under the name “Matthew Honda” indicates that Harkey is employed by Napleton Honda in Loves Park. He’s also listed on the dealership’s website as a sales and leasing consultant. R.
