MACHESNEY PARK – Two people were charged with kidnapping Friday after police responded to a domestic dispute in the 100 block of Gilbert Terrace.

Winnebago County Sheriff spokesmen say deputies responded to the scene at around 7 p.m., after receiving a report that a 2-year-old boy had been kidnapped from a Machesney Park residence. Deputies later located the suspect’s vehicle near Fulton Avenue and Fremont Street in Rockford.

Twenty-one-year-old Markeshia E. Topps-Gordon, of Rockford, was arrested at the scene of the traffic stop. A short time later, officers located a man carrying a child running from a house in the 2400 block of Fremont and captured him after a foot chase. The child was not harmed.

Topps is charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery.

Darrell Gordon, 34, of Rockford, is charged with aggravated kidnapping, domestic battery and resisting a peace officer. Gordon told police he is the 2-year-old’s father.

Gordon and Topps-Gordon are being held without bond in the Winnebago County Jail.
