ROCKFORD – A 24-year-old Rockford man was pronounced dead at a local hospital early Thursday after being shot on the city’s east side.

Officers were called to a home in the 3300 block of California Road at about 1:15 a.m., for a report that two people had been shot. The man was lying the driveway and was transported to the hospital, where he died. A 26-year-old old woman showed up at a hospital and was treated for wounds police say are linked to the shooting.

Details are minimal at this time, however, police say the victims knew each other and the incident appears to be random. No suspect information has been released as of this report.

The man’s death marks Rockford’s 10th homicide of the year.

Anyone with anyone with information is asked to call the Rockford Police Department at 815-966-2900 or Rockford Area Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.

The Rock River Times will have more on this story as it develops.
