ROCKFORD – The community is invited to take part in this year’s Aug. 15 celebration known as Rockford Day.

This year’s event, also known as “815 Day,” will feature a photo challenge that allows people to submit photos that show their Rockford pride. Photos can be submitted to GoRockford.com until Aug. 9.

“I’m really looking forward to the photo challenge,” Mayor Tom McNamara said. “For the last several years, we focused a lot on retail and restaurants, and we have fantastic retail and local restaurants to spotlight. But I think we have so many great assets like the Klehm Arboretum, the riverfront, the murals. There are so many great things. There are so many fantastic things throughout the city, and I am really looking forward to people sharing their source of pride for the city of Rockford.”

Judges will choose the most creative photos from adult and youth categories, and announce the winners Aug. 15 during the Rockford Day kickoff event at Culture Shock, 2239 Charles St.

About two dozen businesses have already signed up to offer Rockford Day promotions and host special events.
