Winnebago County Animal Services at maximum capacity, seeking adopters

Staff Report

ROCKFORD – Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) is full of cats and dogs and is asking the public to help by adopting them.

Starting Wednesday, July 17, through Saturday, July 20, the agency is offering a select number of adult dogs for a $50 each and adult cats for $10 each. Each kennel will be specially marked for easy identification. The WCAS Volunteer Auxiliary is sponsoring the limited-time event.

Adopters must be at least 18 and show a state-issued ID. All cats and dogs in the household must be current with a rabies vaccination and county pet license. Adopters must not have any animal complaints on record.  Winnebago County Animal Services encourages renters to get approval from their landlords before adopting a pet.

“If you have an empty lap or are looking for a walking companion, we can help you fill that need with a new furry friend,” said Donna Apgar, Animal Services Adoption Coordinator. “There should be new animals available every day during this event, so please visit the shelter in person to find your new best friend.”

Adoptions include a wellness exam, spay or neuter, microchip, vaccinations including a one year rabies shot, flea and tick preventative, and more. Winnebago County residents also receive a one year rabies registration tag. The normal adoption process will be used to qualify all adopters.

For more information on adopting or volunteering, please visit their website at www.wcasrock.org or call 815-319-4100.
