ROCKFORD – A Rockford man is in custody after members of the Rockford Police Department’s Narcotics Unit served a search warrant on the city’s near-east side Friday morning.

Gregory Hill, 35, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and no FOID.

Police say those charges come after a month-long investigation of reports of possible drug activity. During the investigation, police identified an address related to the reports and served a search warrant at 217 S. Chicago Avenue, where a loaded handgun was recovered.

Hill was taken into custody at the scene. He is lodged in the Winnebago County Jail without bond and is due in court Monday.
