Rockford police search for burglar who fell asleep in victim’s car

ROCKFORD – Investigators with the Rockford Police Department are on the lookout for a man they say illegally entered a vehicle on the city’s northwest side Sunday and fell asleep.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m., Aug. 25, patrol officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Deborah Avenue. Upon arrival, they learned the 49-year-old male homeowner found a
man sleeping in his vehicle parked outside. When confronted by the victim, the suspect fled on
foot.

The only items taken from the victim’s vehicle were two beverages.

During a follow-up investigation, officers learned the suspect had attempted to gain entry to the victim’s
home prior to getting inside the vehicle.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 30s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches and 230 pounds
with a short beard and mustache. He was a grey shirt that said “Zoo York”, grey sweatpants and black tennis shoes.
