Staff Report

ROCKFORD – A Rockford man was jailed this week after a woman was strangled and gasoline poured on her building.

Police say at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 2400 block of Benderwirt Avenue in response to domestic battery report. That’s where they spoke to a 33-year-old woman who said she was strangled by man with whom she shared a domestic relationship.

The victim’s 13-year-old son witnessed the attack and tried to intervene. A short time, later, police say the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Kenneth Jones Jr., threw a brick through a window and poured gasoline around the outside of the building and threatened to set on fire.

Jones was taken into custody at the scene. He is charged with aggravated domestic battery, attempted aggravated arson and two counts of criminal damage to property. His bond is set at $300,000.
