ROCKFORD – A 21-year-old Rockford woman has been charged with beating a 5-month-old baby, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Porshay Paden is charged with aggravated battery to a child and aggravated domestic battery. Prosecutors say the charges come after an incident on Aug. 20,  when Rockford Fire emergency teams were dispatched to the 700 block of Belmont Avenue to treat a child who was not breathing.

The baby was transported to a local hospital and diagnosed with multiple skull fractures and a brain injury.

Violent crimes detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and charges were authorized against Paden, the state’s attorney’s office said in a release.

Paden is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 13. She faces up to 30 years in prison if she’s convicted.
