ROCKFORD – The 30-year-old male victim in a shooting earlier this week at the intersection of Sixth and East State streets has died, police reported Thursday night.
The man and a 30-year-old woman were wounded at around 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, when a another man opened fire on their car from inside another vehicle. The woman was treated and released from a local hospital.
Police say the man responsible for the now-fatal shooting is 28-year-old Jamie Pearson, a parolee who was released from prison in March. He is currently charged with two counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm and is being held without bond.
Pearson’s charges are expected to be upgraded to first-degree murder.
The victims’ names have not been released. The man’s death marks the city’s 16th homicide of the year.
