Update: The victim in Tuesday’s fatal shooting has been identified as 40-year-old Rockford resident Robert Wash.

ROCKFORD – Investigators are on the scene of a homicide that occurred Tuesday on the city’s southeast side. 

According to Rockford Police Public Information Officer Christie Castillo, shortly after 8 p.m., units responded to a shooting in the 4900 block of Harrison Avenue and located a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds outside an apartment building.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His identity is not being released at this time.

The incident marks Rockford’s 17th homicide of 2019.
