Man sentenced to 18 years for sexually assaulting child

ROCKFORD – A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to nearly two decades prison for a 2018 sexual assault.
Marques Lemar Tate was sentenced Nov. 26 to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of aggravated criminal sexual assault.
In June 2018, Rockford Police received a complaint from an individual who reported that Tate had sexually assaulted a child. Sensitive Crimes detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and charges were authorized by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Tate pleaded guilty Sept. 13, 2019. He must serve 85% of his sentence.
Aggravated criminal sexual assault is a Class X felony with a sentencing range of six to 30 years in prison followed by three years to natural life on parole. He must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
