Man acquitted in Rockford homicide

ROCKFORD – A Rockford man charged in a 2019 homicide has been acquitted after standing trial in a Winnebago County courtroom.

Jamie Pearson, 28, was found not guilty Monday. He was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in the  shooting death of 30-year-old Demonte Williams.

Prosecutors alleged that on Sept. 17, 2019, Pearson was in a car traveling south on Sixth street when he opened fire on a vehicle occupied by Williams and other person. Williams died two days later at a local hospital. A 30-year-old woman was wounded and survived.

The jury deliberated for 2 1/2 hours before returning a not-guilty verdict. Pearson was was represented by attorney Glenn Jazwiec. The case was tried in front of  Judge Randy Wilt.
