ROCKFORD – Seven people have now died in Winnebago County from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel corona virus, after two more deaths were announced Friday, April 10.

Details about the deaths have not been released.

The announcement comes just a day after two local residents, one who lived in a Rockford nursing home, succumbed to the virus that has now killed more than 600 people statewide.

There are now 93 positive cases of COVID-19 in Winnebago County.

According to models, Illinois is nearing its peak in new infections, but could see 1,000 or more COVID-related fatalities by August.

The River Times will have more on this story as it develops.
