Rockford woman charged with homicide in Preston Street shooting

ROCKFORD — Jammie Whittemore, 44, of Rockford, has been charged with the city’s 15th homicide.

First-degree murder allegations filed against her stem from a shooting that occurred early Thursday, Aug. 26, in the 3300 block of Preston Street.

Police say officers arrived on the scene at around 1:15 a.m., and located a 43-year-old man who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Whittemore was identified as a suspect during a follow-up investigation. She is currently in custody on unrelated charges. The victim’s name has not been released.
