Rockford man guilty of sexually assaulting woman at house party

ROCKFORD — Troy Rossato, 35, was found guilty of two counts of criminal sexual assault Tuesday, Aug. 7, after a bench trial in front of Judge Debra Schafer.

Criminal sexual assault is a Class 1 felony with a sentencing range of four to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. A sentencing date has not been set. Rossato is scheduled to appear in court again Sept. 24.

Charges against him stem from a report Winnebago County deputies received July 14, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Hospital. The victim told deputies that she attended a house party the night before, and while she was in and out of consciousness, Rossato sexually assaulted her.

The case was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and charges were authorized. The case was investigated by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State’s Attorney Kirstin Krivanec handled the prosecution.
