Update: The suspect in last weekend's incident has been identified as Antonio Wilson, 35, of Freeport. Rockford man accused of strangling woman during domestic dispute

Staff Report ROCKFORD - A Rockford is charged with beating and strangling a woman during a domestic dispute early Thursday on the city's west side. According to police, at about 1:15 a.m., officers arrived at an apartment in the 4200 block of Auburn Street and spoke to a 23-year-old woman who claimed she had been been battered by a male domestic partner inside the residence. Rockford mayor announces new group, golf outing to support Family Peace Center

Staff Report ROCKFORD - Mayor Tom McNamara, on Thursday, announced the creation of a new group aimed at fighting domestic violence. The group, "100 Men Who Give a Damn," brings  together busy men in the community to make a difference without a huge time commitment. It meets four times a year to raise money for the Mayor’s Office of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Prevention’s Family Peace Center initiative.
