ROCKFORD – A Rockford man was convicted Monday in connection with a fatal shooting.
Deon L. Hart, 23, was found guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm after a jury trial in front of Judge Brendan Maher.
Hart is guilty of shooting Lester Sanders in the 3300 block of Sablewood Drive on May 24, 2017. The shooting was sparked by a fight between two girls. Sanders was not involved. Officials say as shots rang out, Sanders was hit in the back as he stood in the doorway of his apartment.
Rockford resident Van Richardson was also charged and was convicted of first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm last month.
Both men face life in prison.
Hart is scheduled to appear in court again Dec. 6. R.
