Victims of Rockford double homicide ID’d

ROCKFORD – The victims of Monday’s double homicide on the city’s near-east side have been identified. 

Phillip Butler, 30, and Trifari Hughes, 29, both of Rockford, were killed around 8:30 p.m., near Hutchins Avenue and Pearl Street. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office reported Wednesday that both men died from gunshot wounds.

Police say the victims were outside when they were shot. Police have not named any suspects. The killings mark the city’s 11th and 12th homicide of the year.
