Hard Rock Casino Rockford kicks off month-long food drive

Staff Report

ROCKFORD – Hard Rock Casino Rockford, on Wednesday, kicked off the first day of a month-long food drive benefiting the Rock River Valley Pantry and other local food pantries.

The food drive will run through Friday, Feb. 14.

“We know that after the holidays, donations and volunteers tend to drop off,” Hard Rock International Chief Operating Office Jon Lucas said in a release. “While we are still going through the state approval process, we didn’t want to wait until we’re approved to do something good for the people of Rockford. We invite the community to get involved to help us collect items to help people in need throughout the remainder of winter.”

The Rock River Valley Pantry delivered five empty barrels ready to be filled with donations to the Hard Rock downtown office, located at the corner of State and Main. Anyone who donates an item will receive a small Hard Rock gift for their generosity, while supplies last. Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday from noon to 3 pm.

The food pantries are requesting canned items, including fruit, vegetables and meat that are not past the expiration date and are non-perishable. A complete food item list can be found at hardrockcasinorockford.com.

The proposed Hard Rock Casino Rockford was approved by the City of Rockford and was submitted to the Illinois Gaming Board in October. The Illinois Gaming Board has up to a year to review applications and issue licenses.
